I’m rereading ‘the long way to small angry planet’ by Becky Chambers and I love it so much. Not all the characters are queer and it’s not a romance but having alien species that normalise being queer, that switch sexes through their lives, where gender just isn’t a thing, use gender neutral pronouns - it’s so comforting to read that normalisation of queerness.
I’m also an author, poet, essayist and playwright. Reading and acting helped me start exploring, writing became a way for me to actively shape the adventures I was curious about and drawn to!
I have been needing to read more transgender books but after reading your post I feel strongly that I simply have to read some Queer books to celebrate the woman I am and that I just finished my 28th year as a special educator!♥️
Fwiw, when I say “queer,” it includes trans books and trans authors!! Obviously, 100% do what feels best for you right now. And, reading more trans books is absolutely a way for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community to practice queer joy. 💙

I read queer books and I write books with queer characters just living their lives, finding love, family, and solving mysteries/crimes.
I couldn't find enough queer books to read so I started writing them.
Also, a favorite to read is Dharma Kelleher's Jinx Ballou and Avery Byrne series.

Oh wow!!! Have you read Dawn? It also (seemingly) doesn’t have LGBTQ human characters, but then has gender fluid aliens with queer family structures!

As I begin to transition there is something calming even of about thinking reading Queer books!
